@TrueNorthSpice@mastodon.world I won't necessarily blame the people, the fact is we've got a raging dumpster fire down south and a legacy media that is trying to "do more with less" which inevitably means licensing US content (whether a whole segment with a foreign journalist reporting, or even just a Canadian journalist that's putting together a clip package of US news) and reporting on the US dumpster fire. CBC's The National has pretty consistently had a whole block (that is a commercial to commercial series of segments) devoted to the US, even when nothing is going on there or it's on a subject that won't directly affect Canadians (the argument is always "when the elephant rolls over we feel it..."). Unless there is a scandal being presented to you, you have to be a pretty diligent political junkie to have provincial, and especially local news 'fed' to you, whether through algorithms or just having an established network on Mastodon. I don't know how to push local issues onto people like used to be done.
