I guess the summary is this:
It was nice to be, to be seen as, altersex *in the right way* in public for a few hours.
I wish it weren't the first time it'd ever happened.
I wish it weren't almost certain to be the last time for a long time.

I understand the meaning or the term, I think, but I don't have enough context to parse what you mean by "It was nice to be, to be seen as, altersex on the right way in public for a few hours." and that sounds like that kind of thing I would really enjoy understanding.
