The same bros who say AI is inevitable and "as necessary as air" are the same weirdos who go out in the woods to build lean-tos with a $500 scandi blade made from space age alloys to "reconnect with primitiveness" and who won't eat a damn potato because cave men didn't farm them.

Cis people - I'm starting to think maybe you don't actually "forget" my name and pronouns. I mean, I gave y'all the benefit of the doubt the first 100 times or so you "forgot", but seriously, invest in some ginko or something. Get that checked.

Just in case you were a teenager in 1995/1996 and made this same mistake: Elastica and Republica are not the same band. Elastica did "Connection" and Republica did "Ready to go" Thank you, you may return to your business now.

After a lifetime of finding it effortless to be a thorn in the side of authority, I find it more difficult lately. There is no reduction in my desire, there is only increased difficulty finding solid ground from which to make principle stands. I don't know if that speaks more about myself or the state of the world.

RE: https://flipboard.com/@wired/security-news-f9no9s7gz/-/a-SJyclEaETBSQuwwYcqZ3Xw%3Aa%3A3199480-%2F0 I was quite ready to bust out some of my past research into the inability to verify the non-existence of hardware backdoors, but I have to tell you "it's IR transparent so you can inspect the die" is quite cool. I'm jealous I won't be getting my hands on one of these this year

I just remembered the Flock browser used to exist. I wonder what that concept would look like in 2026. Particularly the Fediverse variant.

People say some wild stuff to me in interviews. Today the candidate asked me if my name was a joke. My dude, maybe stow that during an interview?

I have seen the movie Twister about 200 times (literally, I managed a Blockbuster and I would run it on the TV often) I didn't realize until tonight that one of the characters is named Rabbit.

Today my wife and I took our daughter to the doctor. We both went because my wife works in schools and is off for the summer. I was talking to the receptionist to check in and she said. "so you're obviously mom (to me) and you are? (to my wife)" Imma be ridin' on that euphoria buzz for a while. Also I enjoyed how it didn't get any less awkward when I said "She's also mom."

Every house buying show on HGTV starts with "I carve raisin sculptures for a living and my wife is a wedding planner for ferets. Our budget is 7.5 million."

For some reason my brain has been demanding that I write creatively lately. Great plan, take up writing exactly when the world is being flooded with algorithmically generated text.

"Oh me? I'm not doing much, I'm just introducing exogenous lipid-soluble steroidal compounds across my plasma membranes to bind intracellular receptors, causing receptor dimerization and translocation into cell nuclei to bind EREs and modify my coactivators and corepressors during transcription and subsequent protein production. What are you up to?"

Understanding license is not my forte, but I'm curious- is the creative commons CC BY-NC-ND license, which prohibits redistribution considered to bar the use of content to be used for training AI? The specific text is "If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you may not distribute the modified material." That feels like it can be weasled around by saying they're not distributing a modified version of the material, they are just using measurements of it.

By the way- some science I did circa 2007 or so.. I used a sweep generator, a speaker coil, a transducer, and an oscilloscope to measure the isolation of various “audiophile” turntable isolation products and techniques. Sorbothane, neoprene, spikes, ball bearings, etc etc. Best solution was also the cheapest- a “double yellow dot” squash ball and a 1/8” thick, 3/4” ID nitrile hose washer. You can get a case for like 20 bucks. This is how I can play Prodigy and Crystal Method with a subwoofer...

Nirvana wasn't a grunge band, they were a riot grrl punk band, people just didn't notice because they were dudes. The sound fits- intentionally "sloppy"/gritty northwestern US punk- the lyrics fit- they focus on empowerment, sexual assault, racism, classism, patriarchy... Kurts visual style fits (right down to the thrift store cardigans and dresses).. Nirvana is a partly gender swapped Bikini Kill.

If you write a privacy policy, please consider having a couple of different people from traditionally marginalized groups critique it for you, particularly those of us who have lived in any sort of figurative closet. ...and for the love of the gods don't write a name policy without including someone in the process who has changed their name.

For those of you who came from functional families, this incessant back and forth oscillation between terror and relief, random attacks, and perpetual gaslighting are exactly what its like to be in a dysfunctional family.
