@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A8: I just saw someone who answered the giveaway post for the old Schwinn but is probably not going to take it, because she lives on an upper level flat and doesn't think she can store it in the garage. She's going to go check, but I gave her a tip about Shoreline Tool Library's bike shop and I suspect she'll end up getting something there. Which is fine by me! The old Schwinn isn't a bike for most people and it'll probably end up there too. _They_ will be able to find a home for it. #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social #BikeNite A8: The most interesting of my photos of the week was the sunflower field that I rode past just after sunrise near Wadena Minnesota.

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A8. We have a limited and very much internal-use test area set up for @CyclingGuide@cosocial.ca in Toronto right now. I used it for the first time on Thursday and was delighted with the experience. Here’s a screenshot taken while I was riding. (Lots of work to do before it’s public, but we’re making progress!) #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A8: I am thinking of documenting some of the abominations here and going to bother council people about them. Blaxland Road Campbelltown is one obvious one. It's a busy stroad, there's zero bike facilities and there's a linear park parallel with no path at all. At the end is a "cyclists please ride into this kerb" corner with ~3m of missing bike lane. Red line thru park is my proposed path :)

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social I had my coworker 3D print a shim for the seatpost. SHould I blast it with a hair dryer and try to mash it in? Trim some of it off?

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social #BikeNite A8. Bought a garage sale bike last weekend (don't ask me why, lol). It was give away cheap. Shimano 600 components. Ended up it had a bent rear dropout and rear axle was assembled wrong... probably never ridden since it was assembled in 1981. I unbent the frame, got new tires and tubes, and now it has been ridden, finally, 45 years later.

@bikenite@fedigroups.social A8. No bike riding in the last couple of days, but I appreciated this mural in Denver. #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A8. #BikeNite. On Thurs. I did an emtb ride to check out the area that burned in the Sandy Fire, Simi Valley, SoCal back in May. I had never ridden over in that area because I thought it was mostly steep dirt fire roads, which aren't all that interesting to me. I noticed that the fire had exposed some unofficial single-track trails. One of them was crazy steep, which I'm not thrilled about. The one I did, called "Ham Radio" for some reason, was reasonable, but on a ridge-line and very exposed with steep drop-offs on the sides. Fun, but not my favorite thing, so I took it slowly. I would have preferred not seeing how close I was to the edge. There was another trail further down with lots of big jumps. I'm too old for that kind of thing, so, I bypassed the jumps. It was still fun, since there were lots of twists and banked turns. It was a pretty warm day (~90F) and I wasn't familiar with the area, so I mostly played it safe. Took streets back to a trail-head that I knew about. Ended up getting a flat about a mile from the end. Didn't want to deal with it in the heat, so used a mini electric pump to pump it up once and took it slowly the rest of the way on a mostly flat tire. I had been meaning to replace that tire anyway. Even though it was an ebike ride, Garmin thought it was very demanding. My heart rate was higher the entire ride due to the heat.
