@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social #BikeNite A6 spending more money on a bike? Buying an ebike? Getting a more upright riding position? Whatever it takes to keep you riding, I think is good. Otherwise I aspire to one day make my own jerseys. I don't see anything wrong with your hat though. The sun can be intense and I recently learned that bike caps can apparently help keep rain out of your eyes. I'll definitely be trying that.

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A6. Wide road tires (32 mm). I was discussing with bike friends from college. We ran 21-23 mm tires and thought we were bad ass. Nope, just sore ass. #bikenite

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social I'm a lot stronger and definitely a better biker than I was even when I was bike commuting, so... I am _vaguely_ thinking of some longer-distance rides. Certainly not something like STP, I'm not built for that and never have been, I don't have that kind of stamina and never have, not even when a serious athlete, which is why hockey was the perfect sport for me. BUT I think about it more than I used to. I think I'd be lucky to get to a century ride. But I'm starting to think that _maybe_ that's attainable. _Maybe_. #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social #BikeNite A6. Actually, cycling around in normal clothing. I finally got to an age where I don't care what "cyclists" are supposed to wear, and just enjoy bicycling around, and don't care about fitting in. I never would have done that in a younger me, worried about appearances.

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A6. Bike camping. Wearing lycra. Dragging young kids around on a bike. #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A6. I bought a pedal-assist e-bike a few weeks back — a Brompton. It’s exceeded my expectations, and is a ton of fun to ride. #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A6. I would not have been caught dead on an upright bike when I was younger. Everything had to be sporty and racy and fast for me back then. Now, I value comfort very much, and my upright seated e-bike is the perfect commuter/grocery getter/I'm-bored-let's-ride kind of bike. I think I should get that Da Brim visor before the next #eastbaykidicalmass, which happens 8/8/2026 at Lake Merritt in Oakland! #BikeNite #BikeTooter

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A6: walking to the supermarket because it's raining and I don't want to get wet. And I like walking a lot more now than when I was younger. Also, Campbelltown council tolerate pedestrians a lot more than they do bicycle riders. Lots of anti-bicycle infrastructure. #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A6. Yes! I put on gobs of sunscreen. I spent a lot of years riding with as little clothing as I could get away with (no helmet, either), bleached hair and tanned. And a few years ago I had an itchy spot on my back. A mole I had not known of. Yes, they removed it, no it was not melanoma, but it was considered only a step down from cancer. They sent in a nurse to give me the lecture. Yes, **that** kind of nurse. #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social #BikeNite A6: my DaBrim is definitely one of those things, I also probably wouldn’t have ridden my #Brompton in my youth, deeming it “undignified”. I also have a rain cape I wear on rainy days that wouldn’t have passed muster with my younger self.

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social #BikeNite A6 I use more bikepaths than I used to, unclear if that's because I'm getting older, there's now more of the paths that actually go useful places, or that melbourne's drivers get worse and their vehicles get bigger

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social a6. Getting a kickstand. I don't actually have one, but I wish I did for my commuter #bikenite
