@kmherkes@wandering.shop its one of those things I wish was clearer to writers from the outset of choosing a publishing path. The traditional view of trad publishing as validation of the book as worthy of being in print, as opposed to validation of how commercially successful and profitable it will be to a publisher, doesn't seem to have been put to bed yet.

    @ElisesWritings@wandering.shop I share your wish. The modern cultural conflation of validity and profitability gives me hives. One of the things I emphasize to folks who ask me for advice on publishing (right after I warn them that no advice is one-size fits all) is that there's more than one way to write and publish, and none of those paths are exclusive. They can write a book to query, AND self-pub others, AND even write fiction they won't ever try to sell. If they want. All valid.
