One of the things I emphasize to folks who ask me for advice on publishing (right after I warn them that no advice is one-size fits all) is that there's more than one way to write and publish, and none of those paths are exclusive. They can write a book to query, AND self-pub others, AND even write fiction they won't ever try to sell. If they want. All valid.
