    @cmsdengl@mas.to The article I just linked to was from 2021 (saying it was already dead then), https://www.computer.org/csdl/magazine/cs/2017/02/mcs2017020004/13rRUzphDu2 was 2017, and I'm typing this on a laptop that came out in 2012. It was high end then and I've upgraded the ram and disk, but modern laptops are only about 3 doublings better. (It beats current chromebooks.) The curve started bending down in 2010. Doesn't mean the doubling stopped, it means the period between each doubling increased (and/or needed WAY more investment each time).
