A bunch of firefighters in full gear (https://fire-end.com/collections/halligan-tool/products/hire-hooks-hybrid-halligan-bar !) walked through the apartment's common area (I asked, "burned food set off an alarm, all good") and I was immediately struck by how DIFFERENT an experience it is from police doing the same thing. I'm reminded why nobody has ever written a song called "fuck the fire department". These guys are unambiguously here to help, know what they're...

Note to self: the trick to properly flexible um̈lauts is echo -e 'm\xcc\x88' (Which is, admittedly, a 10 yard penalty for abuse of explicit utf8 to create unicode combining characters. The ref gives you a purple card if they catch you.)

Amazon Web Services was built when Moore's Law was still happening, meaning they knew their data centers would be cheaper to repair and cheaper to upgrade in future. AI data centers will only get _more_ expensive to maintain as the helium runs out and international shipping faces state sponsored piracy and so on. They're spending trillions to do what AWS spent billions on because Moore's Law stopped, but their business model depends on it continuing.
