@mattwilcox@mstdn.social I agree, but I have also fully struggled with this all my life. All the regrets I chalked up to my own personal failures, laziness, lack of diligence, carelessness - were always hard to forgive myself for. And every time I did it again meant more self-flagellation. Why do I never learn, etc. Getting diagnosed with ADHD earlier this year has finally brought me some inner peace. It's not an excuse. But gives me some compassion for my past self, given what I've had to push through.

    @sarajw@front-end.social Glad to hear you’re in a better place with it now :) It’s not always easy. The odd thing for me is realising that even the assholes I see are doing their best. Which doesn’t stop them being assholes or me being angry at them - but does make me re-frame my own gut reaction of“attack the asshole” to “what’s making being an asshole the best choice they have right now?”. Because if I can work that out I can more effectively change/engage/impact them.
