@sarajw@front-end.social Glad to hear you’re in a better place with it now :) It’s not always easy. The odd thing for me is realising that even the assholes I see are doing their best. Which doesn’t stop them being assholes or me being angry at them - but does make me re-frame my own gut reaction of“attack the asshole” to “what’s making being an asshole the best choice they have right now?”. Because if I can work that out I can more effectively change/engage/impact them.

    @mattwilcox@mstdn.social yep. I try and chill my reactions out and imagine the asshole is having a bad day. We're all assholes on bad days. Or weeks, or years. Sometimes for the protection of others you have to try and do something about the assholes though - like the one likely driving at 90+ km/h in a 30km/h residential zone, who served across a crossroads and nearly hit me and my children... The free pass and compassion goes away as soon as their actions can physically or mentally hurt someone else.
