Of course, that requires that almost every user becomes tech-savvy.
For example, I’m the admin of this tiny instance, I just have my wife and friends with me. I also self-host Peertube.
One tech-savvy user per 5 that aren’t, max costs 5-10$ split between 3-5 users (we all have enabled automatic post deletion).
Seems like a good deal.

@chroma@raccoonisland.social @GrahamDowns@mastodon.africa I’ll admit that I have the IT skills to self-host, but I can’t be bothered. I’ve got a life that feels full already. I don’t want the burden of being responsible for other’s social media access / misbehaviour.
