This is a very significant finding. If it turns out the heat shield technology can not be reused it undermines the entire economic premise of the Starship program.

@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online @AkaSci@fosstodon.org I doubt that’s true — the booster is the expensive part, and SpaceX seems to be able to build ships rather quickly. Even if the shields require extensive rehabbing, I would guess the system will still be cost effective relative to current alternatives.
