The debate is dominated by two side. On the Pro-AI side you have #techbro culture which is arguing that #AI has magic powers and that any cost should be paid for it. On the Anti-AI side you have people arguing simultaneously that the tech is worthless while also it's going to steal everyone's jobs. (Hint: It can't do both and neither statement is true.) Like gun control. the debate is largely devoid of facts, and generally adding research studies makes the debate more confusing. 3/

    Because your typical person is, quite honestly, wildly unqualified to read research and determine the technical merit of it. "Gun Availability Increases Gun Deaths" is not an interesting or useful statistic because if you swap out Gun with Swimming Pool or Car or anything else, you get the same result. A study projecting that AI is going to consume absurd energy by 2030 given current growth doesn't tell you about the energy, it tells you about the growth!
