@atpfm@mastodon.social If you want “beach metrics”, tell me what you think of Sydney’s beaches, the ones north of the famous two (Bondi and Manly) Freshwater, Curl Curl, Dee Why … Mona Vale, Newport, Avalon? There’s goldilocks levels of uniformity, curvature, width (the walk from grass to water), steepness (on sand and in water), and a gorgeous view with clifftops at the headlands. Each have a slightly different angle into the ocean. So not just the essentials like sand quality and climate. Or access to civilisation. I’m talking about the suitability for just “enjoying” the beach like John would do, not necessarily about surfer popularity — though that is absolutely there too. 🤔 this might be the most suitable clip — iPhone related + Sydney northern beaches — when YouTuber Luke Miani drove up to do a comparison of iPhone 14 and 15 cameras: https://youtu.be/Y8oZKg2o7zE?t=210 … part of his series of “I went to Australia to buy the iPhone hours before everyone else”

@atpfm@mastodon.social came in to give feedback on last week, to find next week is already recorded. Anyways… In regard to a potential cancelled 202x Intel Mac Pro, here’s Tim Cook quote at the Apple silicon transition: “In fact, we have some new Intel based Macs in the pipeline that we're really excited about.” Apple shipped updated Intel iMacs in August that year but after that it was Apple silicon all the way. Does not seem reasonable that speed bumps to the 5K iMacs alone fulfill the implication made.

@caseyliss@mastodon.social Do they not have running water in the beach town you go to? Maybe my California is showing but it BLOWS MY FREAKING MIND that people buy those huge cases of plastic trash just to transport water from one place to another. (Not hating on you in particular, just using your example to illustrate what huge numbers of people do. Even worse is people buying CASES OF GLASS BOTTLES SHIPPED HALFWAY AROUND THE WORLD for their drinking water). @atpfm@mastodon.social

@atpfm@mastodon.social @siracusa@mastodon.social @caseyliss@mastodon.social just got to the end about the beaches. I know you don't travel much, but there is a marvelous hack available if you decide to spend the money. The beaches in S. America are exactly what you like, and it would get you out of the Boston winter at the right time. Anywhere from Rio to Punta del Este in Uruguay. The parts north of Punta del Este are that rough-style beach (no palm trees etc). I haven't been in years, but I don't think it changes. https://sayrer.com/blog/rio/

@atpfm@mastodon.social Aww, now I want Accidental Neutral! (FWIW I’m in the same boat as @caseyliss@mastodon.social: I have a Golf GTE, it’s fine, I’m just a little bored with it. But there’s no good electric car which matches what I want. Give me a practical hot hatch with decent range!)
