@alltherum@freeradical.zone @buckfiftyseven@mastodon.social Right? Like, if we're lining up attitudes for comparison, I think "not all AIs" and "not all men" is a better match than "shun harmful tech" and "shun life saving tech." Yes, there are valid uses for AI, in much the same way that many men are safer than bears. But what's the point in getting hung up on that, other than derailing the conversation about a problem?

@Space_Burger_Steve@mstdn.ca @buckfiftyseven@mastodon.social did you not read the reasons women gave for the bear? to the other guy, did you not read the reasons people gave acknowledging the small gains at the cost of nigh irreversible reduction in expertise, trust, and natural resources? Benefits? From an engineering standpoint, the cost is exponentially more. From an environmental standpoint, the cost is geometrically more. From a cultural standpoint, the cost is unmeasurable. Xerox rot at a foundational level.

  • @Space_Burger_Steve@mstdn.ca @alltherum@freeradical.zone on Mastodon, I'm increasingly not seeing rational discussions of problems, covering both risks and benefits. Linus Torvalds offered those, and many here have responded by calling him a slop artist, and demanded that a fork be made.
