@guyjantic@infosec.exchange I will say the server page doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence for me — it appears to be run by someone who’s relatively new to masto (“ask the community for help”), and “be kind” means “don’t upload a lot of stuff to my server”, not “be nice to one another”. It looks higher risk to me to flame out due to disagreement, burnout, or IT issues.
It could be great, but my inclination would be to direct new burners to mastodon.social, a regional server, infosec/hachyderm if they’re techie, or social.coop for more cooperative and small.
The original tribe.net had a lot of cool vibes tho. The US bellydance community was super strong there.

I probably won't direct anyone to mastodon.social until I stop hearing about their issues, but I have been quite happy on infosec.exchange, I have an alt on social.coop (they seem pretty great over there), and another couple of servers seem like good possibilities. I had a good experience for 2 or 3 years on c.im before coming to infosec.exchange, and that seemed OK, too.
