I occasionally buy frozen food which is delivered in biodegradable packaging - sheepswool insulation in a compostable "plastic" bag. I've been putting both on my compost heap as instructed. Today I started digging out compost from the old heap (I have a two heap rotation) and some of that packaging is still very much intact. I just fling it in the new heap for a second go, but is there any way to make it rot faster?

@jim_easterbrook@mstdn.social We have found that some of the so-called compostable bin liners rot really slowly in the compost heap. I have no solution except to throw them back for a second or third round.

I'm a lazy gardener, so I don't fancy doing all the "right" things with compost - turning, aeration, etc. I just pile it all up and leave it alone. Like my father did, and he was a keen gardener.
