The first time I attempted to summit Mount Massive we were about 200 meters from the summit on a ridge and the clouds rolled in, uncharacteristically early. We could hear the ice axes on our backs humming. We promptly bailed down one side of the ridge on a snowfield, glissading about 400 meters in just a few minutes to get out of danger. Probably the scariest on-mountain event I ever had.

@bucknam@mastodon.social oh damn. That's where we were hiking this morning. We left by 11am. Super humid and cloud cover, but nothing that held lightning yet.

@bucknam@mastodon.social massive was my first 14er and I forgot I had a lightning story from that mountain. *shudders* no lightning on Quandary the next day though. Which is good because I was way too sore to be running down rocks.
