@adulau@infosec.exchange So, it's more of a freemium licensing model designed to lock out competitors, similar to the shenanigans that Elastic, Redis, and Hashicorp pulled a few years back? I'm deeply skeptical about calling "open weight" models "open source" anyway. Very few of them come with training data and insights into training/building to allow anyone else to reproduce their work, and the hardware and energy costs associated with retraining are so high as to be nearly impossible anyway. And trained model weights from any kind of deep neural network are far too opaque to compare to source code.

@adulau@infosec.exchange shame, would have been a welcome addition. Feels like the story of our times with all the faux oss releases, open in name only is becoming too common.
