The traditional conservative family is designed for domination; top to bottom control, not care. Its why so many conservatives complain their children won't speak to them. Obedience is rarely a beneficial relationship. This is the family employers mean when they say their workplace is "like a family"; top to bottom control, not care. To the left, family is the people you love, to the right, it's the people you obey or control depending on position. We aren't even speaking the same language.

@anolandria@mastodon.social Agreed, as the child of a single parent I’ve had many many exhausting conversations with conservatives who straight-up tell me to my face it’s bad. I only argue that the love and care from one parent is enough. In fact it may have advantages as a single parent doesn’t have to deal with their own (sometimes fraught) relationship. And often it ends up being about judging the real-world diversity of families, religious teaching and welfare. Thus ultimately about control.

@anolandria@mastodon.social Conservatives also view obedience as being the same thing as morals. It's why they view anyone who isn't obedient to the same rules they claim to obey as being immoral. So to them, a family not built on obedience is a corrupt and immoral family.
