Big Tech won't stop collecting MORE of our BIOMETRIC DATA ๐Ÿ˜ก Meta, the company behind Facebook, just announced new "Facebook verified" badges. To get the badge, you have to record a short video selfie, which Meta will then check against your existing profile photos to confirm it matches. This is just another excuse to collect more of our data ๐Ÿ˜ค Find out how to stop Facebook from collecting your data: ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://tuta.com/blog/what-does-facebook-know-about-me

@Tutanota@mastodon.social The best way to stop Facebook from collecting your data is to not use Facebook.

  • @Tutanota@mastodon.social ID verification via "short video selfies" is stupid, and is now ineffective at it's advertised purpose. It implies that realtime deepfake technology doesn't already exist, SMH... Run a realtime webcam deepfake on a good gaming computer setup, point the phone camera at the screen, and this 'verification' implementation is cooked... This is probably a coverup for yet another data collection scheme. Facebook/Meta is known for those. (remember that "Onavo Protect" app?)

@Tutanota@mastodon.social I must say that i'm really impressed with Tuta - I set up a Revolutionary account at the weekend and linked a domain to it. I'd say it was a straightforward, "calm" experience. ๐Ÿ‘

  • @Tutanota@mastodon.social They had a similar thing for new sign ups for years. I once tried to register and they asked me to do the same. I suppose it's the fact that I was connected to a VPN server that triggered this process, although you'll find complaints on reddit from other people too. Still, none of this solved the issue with the quality of the content and discussions on Facebook. I'm under no illusion that this is their goal though.

@Tutanota@mastodon.social The last few times I've tried creating a burner Fecesbook account they demanded a video selfie from me.

  • @Tutanota@mastodon.social I mean, even tho that they are going to use it, sell it and train AI on it, the idea behind it is reasonable. The only thing to suggest in regards to this is to not use "products" from META.

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Iโ€™m sure this has nothing to do with enhancing the facial recognition data for the pervert glasses.
