just a reminder to everyone that #ai companies are buying old books and then actively fucking destroying them once they've been used for training data by removing the spine
so you being your own little librarian is more important than ever. get books, keep books, especially old books. humanity will thank you for it.

for those of you wondering why they would destroy the books after, it's twofold: 1. scanning books into an #ai model by removing the spine is cheaper than scanning them spine intact 2. by rendering them impossible to read, they avoid existing copyright law, because the uploaded, digital copy replaced the print copy, and then the print copy was taken out of circulation, thus avoiding any issue of creating illegal copies. books were written to be read by people. not chatbots.
