So the reporter likes the chatty plant scientist more than the army dudes. She drives both of the plant scientists to a rubble pile for a first date. The chatty plant scientist says that the rubble pile used to be a granary that did not explode, and assumes that birds ate all the grain. All the grain. They did not miss a single grain. The birds were very hungry.

We learn the chatty scientist is actually a bug scientist but you must study the plants to study the bugs. He notices a lack of insects on the ground. Then he looks backwards and A Giant Grasshopper Looking Thing appears, then eats the mute scientist off camera. RIP.
