This is not inherently a feature of suffering abuse, but a failure of those communities to properly and fully come to terms with the reality of an abuser in their midst.

@DavidM_yeg@beige.party For sure. But, unfortunately, we can’t control how other people process our abusers actions. And often they don’t process them well or with the urgency needed to effectively protect the victim. Doubly so when they abuse happens in the context of a tight-knit group such as a family (which is often the case) where everyone has their own relationship with and feelings about the abuser. Again, I’m not saying this is a good thing. I’m saying it happens. And, unfortunately, even among people with the best of intentions.
