@DavidM_yeg@beige.party For sure. But, unfortunately, we can’t control how other people process our abusers actions. And often they don’t process them well or with the urgency needed to effectively protect the victim. Doubly so when they abuse happens in the context of a tight-knit group such as a family (which is often the case) where everyone has their own relationship with and feelings about the abuser. Again, I’m not saying this is a good thing. I’m saying it happens. And, unfortunately, even among people with the best of intentions.

  • @faithisleaping@anarres.family @DavidM_yeg@beige.party There's also interlocking webs of abusers being victims themselves. I've even seen it turn into a cycle of abuse - A abuses B, B abuses C, C abuses A etc. Relationships are complicated, and if you're person D, you can't really place anyone in that cycle exclusively as the good guy or the bad guy. It's hard to know what to do - especially if you're in a minority community where losing this community might leave you effectively alone in your region.
