@OndrejMirtes@phpc.social I agree that people which are disciplined and motivated will create more good code with LLMs than without. My personal experience on the other hand tells me that only 20-30% of the devs are disciplined and motivated. And the biggest part of the devs will produce more low quality code even faster

@OndrejMirtes@phpc.social I think we will have two major kinds of new software in the near future. 1) the well maintained and tested software, that will be better and harder thanks to LLMs and humans who are constantly investing time into the development and 2) the vibe-coded throw-away software, that will be vibe-coded from the ground again instead of being maintained and updated. So yes, I think in the end both ways will increase the average quality of software.

@OndrejMirtes@phpc.social It's a pity, you're so all-in AI. I love PHPStan. Even if leaving all ethical problems aside (and there are several): no, the average software quality won't increase. Good developers using those tools wisely can benefit, bad developers won't, vibe coders won't learn anything at all. If coding were solely about writing correct code... but we all know, that's not true. Some software will get better, but on the other hand there's an avalanche of useless, unmaintained slop.
