2026 now has downtown Edmonton's 5th highest precipitation total since weather records started in the 1880s.
Not 5th highest to date. 5th highest full-year total precipitation. With 5 months to go.
(And that doesn't count all the snow from December 2025 that didn't melt until spring!)
If it wasn't for all the observations of people with flooded streets (and basements) I'd think there was something wrong with the Blatchford station's rain gauge.
Apologies to all the other parts of western Canada who really would like to get some of this rain. We'd send it your way if we could!

@AmeliasBrain@mstdn.ca If I didn't live downtown I would be suspicious too. But these storms have definitely been massive. I've seen stuff like this before, but those were scattered over a few decades. We've been getting one after another after another.

@AmeliasBrain@mstdn.ca While we didn't have much snow this winter, July has been cold and rainy here too. Lucky enough not to get serious flooding here, but the mountain resorts haven't been so lucky https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiszJ3-dAPo (problem made worse there by illegal logging)
