@jrp i'm so sorry, i'm embarassed by the misunderstanding here - i wasn't replying to you to argue about whether the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem is true or not. it's already been proved.

Beyond that it is interesting, that frequencies above 1 KHz cannot be reproduced w/o a big amount of square wave distortion in digital audio at common sample rates, minus the complexity of overlayed signals. Also expl,ains, why people find vinyl copies so enticing, even of entirely digital audio. You have to crop strong signals, and emphasize the octave below for a complete-seeming picture just to avoid burning your cutting head during laquer cutting. DMM is a different story, but has side effects of that same kind, if in higher sampling rates.
