Important question: does 'scone' - as in the baked treat - rhyme with 'gone' or 'cone' for you? Bonus: roughly where are you from, because I expect some stark regional differences?

@timixretroplays@digipres.club It rhymes with cone and it apparently is not the same thing as a scone in other parts of the world, which I didn't learn until adulthood. A Utah Scone, which is what grew up just calling a scone, is a variant of Navajo Frybread, essentially it's a hunk of deep-fried pizza dough with copious amounts of honey, butter and cinnamon. And very tasty but probably considered an abomination by much of the world.

@timixretroplays@digipres.club I say scone as in ‘gone’ but based on my pronunciation of other words, it should probably carry a 0.5 weighted value.

  • I propose a new kind of time-keeping device: once a minute, it asks 100 random people on Fedi how they pronounce scone, and uses the ratio of 'gone' to 'cone' answers (and its trend over time) to figure out the ratio of Americans vs Brits and Australians who are awake and online and thus what the likely time is. Also, this scone may be the single most photogenic bit of food I've ever made. #baking

@timixretroplays@digipres.club I like to wind people up by pronouncing it with a long "o" like in "stone of scone". (I also like to pronounce gif as "yif"). (If I'm not being an arse, I pronounce it "scone")

@timixretroplays@digipres.club Scone as in cone, and from the UK. Unless your talking about how quickly it gets eaten, because then it's s-gone
