So, #TechQuestion: Do wifi routers ever show false positives for new devices on a network?
Last night my XFinity app notified me an iPhone 17 had joined our WiFi network. We do not own an iPhone 17.
We use a lengthy, randomly generated password (it’s not WINSLOW), but I reset the router and changed to another password — just to be safe.
Just a random blip? Or a nefarious actor in our sleepy town?

@colorblindcowboy@mastodon.art I may be wrong, but when I had Xfinity I thought their routers had both a private network and a semi-public network. If you were an Xfinity customer and were in range of another Xfinity router, you could use it, bypassing any passwords.
