@kitten I propose we finally commit to the bit and build the Grand Bering Strait Rail Bridge, run the trains from London to NYC the long way at an average speed of 1700kph (some right of way improvements may be necessary), and then load them on to specialized boats so we can overhaul them as we drag them across the Atlantic for the next run. In phase 2, we'll build out the Montreal-Reykjavic-Oslo connector tunnel to eliminate the ferry service, of course.

@kitten I do not get why people don't grasp that maybe, on a 6h to 8h train ride you wanna be able to lay down a bit, no matter what time of day and then there is also DB that's like "fuck you, sleep on the seat"

advertise daytime sleeping-compartment long runs as the most pleasant way to ease into and out of vacations, difficult meetings, sports events let massage therapists roundtrip for free and take a cut on massages hired offer zero-interaction trips with all meals in baskets organized beforehand, just dropped off quietly "business special" with extra monitors to use the whole space for planning wine @kitten

@kitten yes please! Just lying down relaxing in my own space (especially if there are curtains) would be absolutely wonderful for those 3h long train trips. Just lie down, relax, not have to worry about people seeing you (it takes just a little bit of energy to be constantly aware of people seeing me).

@kitten it's also a stupid argument because like. you can literally run couchettes during the day, the beds fold into seats and pretty much everyone who's serious about night trains runs them continuously anyway, with just a gap for maintenance and cleaning
