@ChristineMalec@mstdn.ca Yes, the interpreter will do their best to interpret the song as you sing it - keeping time with you. Translation is the act of converting written words to another language, so there will actually be translation happening with the lyrics as the interpreter does their “homework” prepping. Then the actual performance will be an interpretation of the song, because some creativity is required. A decent interpreter will provide the concepts and meaning behind the song while adding emotion, and possibly providing cultural equivalents to ideas that don’t work well in ASL. And for the record, acts who provide lyrics and set lists for interpreters are especially beloved.
