"What's the colour of money" - Hollywood Beyond
He's got a sharp suit, a clear image (dreadlocks, shades), and a distinctive song. Breaks down a little during the instrumental break.
Mark Rogers and his backing band tap into a very 1986 sound: fast percussive beats, a stacatto vocal line with brisk syllables, with the melody mostly reserved for the chorus. Looked a bit like Prince, sounded like all those American hits that don't do much over here...
...and that was Hollywood Beyond's problem. The album, "If", was diverse soul-funk-rock with some jazz thrown in, but the band was not right for 1986. They were either three years too late, or eight years too early.
Mark went on to work in charity, and money remains purple.

"So macho" - Sinitta Gay disco, shot with a family-friendly video taking the piss out of strong men by rejecting professional weaklings. The psychiatrist is played by Mike Savage who we knew from Eureka!, and as Roland Browning's father in Grange Hill. Sinitta was already big in musical theatre, dated David Essex, produced by Simon Cowell, and had failed to win the BBC's 1984 selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. This wasn't her first time on #TOTP, either, having been one of the retained dancers during 1983-4. #Sinitta
