An enjoyable chat with Bonnie Erickson, the puppeteer who gave Miss Piggy an early hand. Bonnie talks about Jim Henson, Fraggle Rock, and the guest whose wig fell off. Why were the Proms playing a Christmas song? Or is "Wonderwall" merely a song that happened to be big around Christmas, like "Don't you want me". "Rise" - Gabrielle To have one monster hit makes a career worth following. To have three - this, and "Dreams", and "Give me a little more time" - shows Gabrielle's a top-drawer talent. Shame she seems to have fallen into obscurity. #TOTP #Gabrielle

This week's Top of the Pops is not as billed in Radio Times. From 7.45: * Three big hits of 1989! * The Damned are spooky * Simply Red make their debut * Billy Bragg is back! (but not with Kirsty) * So are OMD! * And Bros. Hosts are Young Richard Skinner, Sir Simon Bates, and the Miniature of Pop Bruno Brookes. Afterwards, a tribute to Bonnie Tyler, and Big Hits of 1983. But wait! There's more! Tomorrow at 8.50 on BBC2, it's Big Hits 2000. Followed at 9.50 by The Story of 2000,...

Dinnertime Pops was replaced by a nice cup of Coco, Gauff. So, evening all. In our first Mystery Year, Richard Branson broke the world record for fastest boat across the Atlantic. Southend didn't have the longest seaside pier in the world: it now boasted two, somewhat smaller, piers after a boat rammed through the middle. Boy George left the country, after his brother claimed George was addicted to heroin and only had eight weeks to live. This is the longest eight weeks of George's l...

Mmm, lovely flan, well-cooked potatoes, and a cheeky pudding i've saved for #TOTP Christmas night. Now, where are the mystery years up to..? "Star trekkin'" - The Firm

Evening all. Christmas 1999! We've already seen Westlife on the Live and Kicking special, a service from Tooting, movie "James and the Giant Peach", and Morecambe and Wise with Elton John. SM:TV featured Steps, Five, and Westlife. Channel 5's shown Daria (the one with the nuts), and right now ITV is showing Dame Thora Hurd's favourite hymns. Hosts for #TOTP are Gail Porter, Jamie Theakston, and Jayne Middlemiss.

#JukeboxFridayNight has theme #MusicMusiciansAndMashups, songs about making music from existing tunes and lyrics. What better mashup is there than "One Song to the Tune of Another". Here's what happened for Christmas 1999. They've had a letter from a certifiable lunatic, who suggests singing "The Lord's Prayer" to the tune of "Auld lang syne". What a foolish idea. Here's "Bachelor boy" sung to the tune of "Auld lang syne". And...

Last boost: as well as being a cracking wit, Alex McMillan is one of •the• greatest question writers on quiz shows. Look for their credit on Bridge of Lies, The Finish Line, or recent Only Connect. You’ll be sure to find an interesting - and accurate - moment there. Alex’s best? From OC: the lion, the witch, and the (Ikea) wardrobe. #GameShows #OnlyConnect

Wrapping up this year's Eurovision Song Contest with the things i'll remember. The winner, and loads of great songs. The naff hosts, poor production. How repeating something often enough can give the illusion that it's true, a psych trick we all need to remember. But mostly the great songs. https://www.ukgameshows.com/ukgs/Weaver's_Week_2026-05-24

#TuneTuesday is looking for #CastlesInTheSky “Castles in the air” - The Colour Field Terry Hall and his band, the follow-up to the successful “thinking of you”. Terry lusts after someone he’s just seen, at a poetry soirée or whatever, and fantasies about getting to know them better. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xJCLopWR-U0

Well, who'd have thunk it! The Crystal Palace win this year's Intertoto Cup, the biggest title in their history (eclipsing the Full Members' Cup of 1991). The "Eagles" now soar into the UEFA Cup, with the prospect of winning *that*, and qualifying for the European Cup. Hey, in summer 2033 we could be saying The Crystal Palace are World Club Champions.

#JukeboxFridayNight prompts with #AllThatJazz "Sphynx" - Brand New Heavies From the acid jazz scene of 1990, mixing contemporary party vibes with shuffle beats and classic funk. "Sphynx" is an instrumental, shows the band at their best, encouraging each other to improvise and go further, never losing the groove. https://thebrandnewheavies.bandcamp.com/track/sphynx #BrandNewHeavies #AcidJazz

They say it's your birthday, @mariajeperez . Hurrah! What better way to celebrate than with four "classic" editions of Top of the Pops! Tonight's highlights: * Turn! Turn! Turn! * Seymour end their decade. * Cosmic handshakes at 8pm! * They're trying to be the new Shakin' Stevens, and we're not bored of the old one. * Stand on your liver! * Familiar but strangely threatening. * ...because one classic video is never enough. Hosts are Th...
