much like learning the literal translations of a language contains all sorts of fascinating clues to the underlying culture, learning about tools used for specialty tasks is a great way to learn and gain insights into that task.

@paul_ipv6@infosec.exchange Yes! The tools I own the most of are hammers and planes, because there are so many variations fit for very specific tasks. One can do master-quality work with generic tools, but the price is time. Specialized tools allow quality and speed to coexist. So finding an odd tool is a window into what needed to be done well, repeatedly, and with at least some efficiency.
