Reflecting this morning on the fact that the vast majority of reality operates on a scale that is either too quick or too slow, or too small or too large, for us to perceive. If we could see things as they truly are, it would be more than we could take in.

Every star we see with the naked eye is either extraordinarily bright, or in one case extraordinarily close (and still not typical). The vast majority of the stars in the milky way galaxy - red dwarves - are too far and dim to see with the naked eye.

    @darkuncle@infosec.exchange SO true! Rocks bend, fold & flow, blossoms open & droop in their own time, mountains are growing, continents collapsing, galaxies expanding, species dying — and we perceive none of it with our human senses.
