Didn't see this coming... I'm going to ask about #gardening, specifically how to move a mature rosebush (without killing it obvs). I guess it's about 5ft tall by 2ft to 3ft with lots of beautiful scented roses. I want to make sure it survives some building work next year which will be reaching up to about 2ft - 3ft away. We could just prune it and hope but want to consider moving. Is this feasible and if so any tips, do's or don'ts? #roses #gardeningMastodon @gardening@fedigroups.social

@happyborg@fosstodon.org If this is an own-root rose then rooting cuttings would be the way. Else, immediately trench around the plant to prune the roots and so encourage new feeder roots in the ball to be moved - keep moist.

@happyborg@fosstodon.org Cannot give comment on moving your rose bush because it is large. But suggest you take a few cuttings and pot them up, just in case. Depending on your time zone autumn or late spring would be good.
