@sunumbral@beige.party I think you have a better than average chance of renewal. Think about it. How many people are willing to tackle a book this long, even by a great author? Also, the speed and intensity of my reading comes straight out of having read and reviewed early copies of novels for NetGalley. You subconsciously train yourself to read like 200 books a year. I quit when I realized that it had taken over my life. An unpaid job. There's another reason, too, more psychologically-based. I had a hard time learning how to read, and my teacher told my mom I was stupid. I was so mad that I concentrated really hard and the symbols resolved into what I could finally put together. I learned it so well that by the end of the year, I ended up having the highest level of reading competency of the class. It's amazing how much anger and shame can be motivating to a six year old. I didn't want to read anything for pleasure for years, because of that association. Finally, I decided to take back what was rightfully mine, and not let that horrible person change my whole life and ruin what would have naturally been a love of reading. I reclaimed it. But, it took a long time. And that's why I have a complicated relationship with reading.
