In contrast, here's the NRSVUE:Brothers and sisters, do not be children in your thinking; rather, be infants in evil, but in thinking be adults. While I like the NRSVUE for general accuracy, I've never thought of it as especially elegant prose but it's definitely nicer than the reasonably safely quotable versions I've got. The Douay-Rheims version I have in the public domain is essentially the same as the KJV but with different punctuation.
Maybe just because it's what I grew up with, but I think the NIV has the nicest reading of the ones I checked today:Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults.

There's a lot of reasons why 1 Corinthians 13 really shines (even for us non-believers). If you can fudge your ways over the iffy bits and context, it's not a bad message. It's also mostly a beautiful message. Reading the MLV of it, I have a better idea what it's doing. I don't think anyone would get that tattooed either but I suspect it does make the construction of the underlying text (the Koine Greek) more clear. It's not intended to sound / read good. It's a tool for those who don't read Koine Greek (which includes me), not something you'd casually quote in a conversation. So, I think it has its uses even if it's not going to work for me.
