the other day I saw people referencing the "stripper ovulation study". this is a study that proved that strippers earn dramatically more money when they're fertile. the conclusion is science has proved that humans are able to signal fertility in subtle, mysterious ways. I can smell the reek of evolutionary "biology" ten times farther than heterosexual WEIRD males sampled from a USA college campus can smell ovulation pheromones, so I went check. self-reported by the workers themselves. no double-blinding, not even single-blinding; absolutely no controls for the idea that, for example, strippers might behave more confidently when they *believe* themselves more attractive due to ovulation, after being primed by some well-dressed "researcher" telling them just that (did you know? placebo for bodybuilders can be indistinguishable from steroids, the bodybuilders work *that* much harder when they believe they're cheating and can lift more). sample size of a magnificent 18. no consideration of confounders. no replication, no peer review. Science.
