Come on, #WPBL! Post the lineups before gametime!

I've heard several mondegreens for different lines in the chorus of Boston's "More Than a Feeling", but mine was always the second line. The correct lyrics are: "It's more than a feeling (More than a feeling) When I hear that old song they used to play (More than a feeling) And I begin dreaming (More than a feeling) 'Til I see Marianne walk away I see my Marianne walkin' away" But my brain changed "When I hear that old song they used to play" t...

Here's a challenge for all you Linux DFIR types that I've never been able to satisfactorily solve: You have multiple Linux disk images that were all derived from a common base image. Consequently, they have duplicate LVM2 group names, volume GUIDs, etc. You'd like to be able to mount the images simultaneously, but Linux doesn't allow mounting LVM volumes with duplicate names. To date, the only solution I have found is to make a working copy of the image and then destructively r...

I feel like I’ve done this one before. But what the heck, it’s a great tune! “1st Movement (Jumping Biz)”, Electric Light Orchestra - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9akUBIutzY #TuneTuesday #JumpUpAndDown

DFIR is just the cover story I use to excuse my strange passion for file systems.

Rebooting “Ghost Rider” with Ryan Gosling? Two thoughts: 1) The Nick Cage version was definitive 2) Hollywood is a cesspool of non-innovation

“But there are none so frightened, or so strange in their fear, as conquerors. They conjure phantoms endlessly, terrified that their victims will someday do back what was done to them—even if, in truth, their victims couldn’t care less about such pettiness and have moved on. Conquerors live in dread of the day when they are shown to be, not superior, but simply lucky.” “The Stone Sky”, N.K. Jemisin

The USA imposing tariffs for forced labor in other countries while ignoring prison labor in our own country is all kinds of screwed up.

Kathy's "Authentically Cyber" podcast has some very interesting content. I urge you to listen to other episodes beyond my interview. I talked with Kathy about being an independent consultant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P03Y1wmg7rk If you'd like more detailed content, I also wrote a series of articles on my blog: https://righteousit.com/category/consulting/

Not “migrants”, not “illegals”—people. They are people. And our government and governments around the world are killing them. And telling us that the victims are murderers and rapists. Every accusation a confession.

Creativity, cleverness, intelligence, wisdom—I see bad things happen whenever one of these is emphasized at the expense of the others. Theory must often give way to experience. So experiments should be constructed to minimize possible harms if theory is incorrect.

When people are looking for web exploit indicators they often focus exclusively on the access logs. They're nice and regular, easy to parse, and contain plenty of useful information. But my experience teaches me that you should not ignore your error logging. I get it, error logs are often irregular, annoying, and have to be correlated back to the access logs in some cases in order to get the full information about the request. But error logs show you things the access logs never will-- stra...

Does anybody have experience using regular expressions in the search bar of the OpenSearch "Discover" dashboard? I'm having success with simple regexes, but when I try to level up to anything a bit complicated my queries start failing. Something weird is happening here, either with escaping or tokenization. Btw, there's a neat little syntax checker for Lucene regexes here: https://target.github.io/LUCkyRegex/

In the early 1970s Roy Wood, Bev Bevan, and recently added Jeff Lynne were winding down The Move and transitioning to their new project Electric Light Orchestra. This song is from their first album, and was written and sung by Wood. Electric Light Orchestra - “Whisper in the Night” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8qp0gCgtLc Wood crashed out of the band over creative direction and was gone before the band’s second album was finished. Jeff Lynne (with Bev Bevan) went on to huge success with EL...

I’ve been working with computers for five decades. Some people view me as an “expert” in certain subjects. And I can tell you that when I am learning a new technology I still feel like the dumbest newb on the planet. I make tons of mistakes. I go down stupid rabbit holes of my own making. I have tons of self doubt. So give yourself some grace. Everybody goes through this phase. Take a deep breath. Believe that you can do this.

Pretty psyched to be seeing Rush live again. It’s been almost 40 years since I saw them on the “Hold Your Fire” tour in Philadelphia (Dec 1987–I looked up the dates on a Rush fan site).

Hearing aids seem to be something of a scam. The same hardware that my audiologist wanted to sell me for $3000 is available from Costco for $1600 under a different brand name. And those aids may not be much better than OTC equipment which costs $600. And covered by private medical insurance? Hah, you wish.
