@smn@l3ib.org @Viss@mastodon.social Not quite. You could fake a device ID, and get the OS to download a different driver, where the payload would exist. But it has oversight, so would be unlikely. It's not executing code from an EDID chip, only providing ID data. But could you embed an EDID chip in a cable, to report one different from the display? Yes. I have a DP to VGA adapter that does this, while converting DP signals into VGA.
