I think I'm going to export my family tree and just use GRAMPS (which I had already started doing as a backup), then start logging into actual heritage sites, like Scottish People, to do the heavy lifting.
Yes, slower work, but no slop.

@adventure_tense@mapstodon.space I keep all my trees private so that nobody can copy information without citing the sources or without nuance. I mostly ignore 'hints' - and completely ignore other family trees, except when looking at DNA matches (and even then, I don't believe what they say without confirming it for myself). It's convenient for working, because it does make finding leads easy: Links to Scotlands People aren't helpful as far as accessing the actual record (I go to Scotlands People for that), but sometimes it makes me aware of the fact that a record actually exists somewhere, so that I know to go looking.
