I grew up on Vancouver Island, and currently live in Sonoma County, in the other CA. Enjoy a weekly hiking ritual to roam different regional parks. Re-calibrate by going north to YPL every year. :-) Really enjoy my historical research & genealogy. Map various locations in QGIS that interest me, along with open source apps to organize and make sense of my research data. Migrated to open source platforms a few years back. QGIS, darktable, LibreOffice, Jellyfin, Tauon, and MANY others.

1/2 Genealogy is getting worse, in my opinion. Ancestry and MyHeritage use AI to push so many incorrect family links, that in my mind, it has to be creating a feedback loop a bad data from all the people adding incorrect links. These companies just don't care about accuracy as much as letting us replicants create a made-up past. And the data is less and less based on actual documents. Links to Scottish People site is generic at best. #Genealogy #AiSlop

Okay. Clearly back to the drawing board. I've been trying to create an open source replacement for our AppleTV, using Linux. Running Jellyfin is pretty great. But running Netflix as a web app is pretty miserable (given time). Maybe it's Firefox, or maybe web-apps are just not doable with our current geo-politics. About a year ago (May &#39;25), I was at the top of Helm Craig, looking down on Grasmere. We were staying at the Lancrigg Hotel for a few nights. I can&#39;t express how much I want to return there. I clearly underestimated how many days we should have stayed there. Can one be homesick for a place you don&#39;t live in? Bazzite is really awesome. Even as a daily driver. I&#39;m testing it out and really grooving to it. An immutable OS is very compelling for certain use cases. Bazzar manages Flatpaks quite nicely. Well, my NEC monitor finally gave up today (a known issue where the screen goes permanently green). It was a great HDPI wide-gamut monitor I&#39;ve had for ten plus years. 🥹 I had two at one time, but the other one gave up a few years ago, for same issue. Back when I used Macs, I would use SpectraView II to calibrate them. With Linux I would use DisplayCal. Since NEC was bought by Sharp, and they exited the monitor market, this was my last NEC monitor. Kind of a sad tech moment. #NEC...
