Having an in person international or national event in America? Are you weighing factors like lodging and transport? Cool stuff to do? Here’s a map to consider if any of your attendees may possibly, even remotely be LGBTQIA. And you care about them.

  • Someone should drop major cybersecurity and tech conferences on this tbh.

@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange ehe, I'm (proudly) from Wyo, and gay. And that's not really fair. We are NOTIRIOUSLY private people. We don't care what you do as long as we don't have to deal with you. Shining your ass in public is very taboo. Even straight people don't do PDA. And as long as you're not drawing attention to yourself, or trying to deepthroat people....nobody cares. That's YOUR business, and it needs to stay that way. We're too damned busy for that shit.

@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange Would be great if the map included a date - as-in: "this is the status as of July 2026". Should help prevent people basing decisions on outdated information.

@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange this is, obviously, assuming that the LGBTQIA atendees are from the US... even in the safer states I wouldn't fancy going through immigration rn

  • @hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange I agree with this map. I have traveled the country and lived in several states. I currently live in TN (as a queer man married to an intersex person) and it is so much worse than when I was in Colorado. Even things like healthcare and unemployment benefits are night and day difference. I hope you never have to live in a red state and need help financially for anything. You will suffer.

  • @hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange I live in California. I’d like to suggest, as I’m sure other people already have, don’t come to the United States. If you are organizing an international event, don’t have it in the United States. Canada or Mexico are better locations if you’re deciding on a location.

@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange Funny how closely that aligns with voting maps...

  • @hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange I wonder what the concern is for Montana? We’re a red state, but at the same time, we’ve got a trans woman in the state house of representatives, and recently put the right to abortion into the state constitution where it will be very hard to get rid of, so many of the conservatives here aren’t as crazy as elsewhere. But I wonder if I’m missing something… 🤔

@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange Can we get this in some color scheme other than red/green? Pretty much the whole map looks like the same color. (But maybe that's intended, because it often feels that way.)

@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange I appreciate that is America is really big (in terms of numbers of people, and amount of money) so many conferences stay there. I can’t see myself ever attending one though. I made a decision to stop years ago when you implemented a Muslim ban at your borders and things have only gotten worse for you since.

@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange I made the comment to one Tech Conference I went to in their follow-up that FL isn't the friendliest place for many folks Individuals at the org agreed, but I don't expect any changes (and many of the orgs headquarter there)

@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange I’m glad I live in one of the dark green states. But that won’t stop people from being stupid.
