We had 6 years to adopt clean air standards
We had 6 years to normalize masking
Society chose denial instead
Now as wildfires rage & the air turns to poison … people are left unprotected
Covid cautious folks are still trying to protect those who’ve ignored them for years
We are still trying to arm people with the tools they need to keep themselves and their families healthy.
We’re handing out N95s.
We’re supporting mask blocs.
We’re teaching people how to build corsi Rosenthal boxes.
We’re educating about the health risks of wildfire
We’re still fighting to help anyone who will listen.
We’ve been left by the wayside, but we haven’t given up.
Everyone is at risk from wildfire smoke.
Everyone.
You can’t choose to not breathe.
We share the air and we need to start caring about the quality of that air.
Invest in good quality respirators.
Get air purifiers for your home.
Support clean air groups in your neighborhood.
Hand out masks to the unhoused and those who can’t escape the elements.
No one is coming to save us.
We must show up and save each other.

@broadwaybabyto@zeroes.ca and most people will answer "we are not at risk". In my area, there were four major fires in the past couple of weeks. Not forests: buildings. The air is a mess, even if it's not wildfire. We can keep waiting for authorities for six more years, I doubt something will change. What kind of world are we leaving behind?
