I wrote this 13 years ago. I've been #CarFree now for 5 years. For the past 11 years, I've lived in a multi-unit bulding in the heart of my town's population center, in a town with an Amtrak station that goes directly to New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington DC. When I wrote this, I was living in a high-rise flat in downtown Seattle (with an F-150 4x4 pickup in the garage). I've put my money and my life where my mouth is.

@gcvsa@mstdn.plus I've been car-free for all my life. I should nuance that: I have never personally owned a car, but I have been forced by others to ride in cars. For me, being car-free is like being helicopter-free, or yacht-free. My biggest problem in getting around is that there are so many cars that are trying to hurt me because I "infringe" on "their" space, that they can't drive as fast as they want if I'm in the road, and so they have to threaten me until I'm not.
