I get the feeling many modern smoke detectors (In the US anyhow) monitor more than smoke and carbon monoxide. The ones I’ve seen in apartments are built like tanks and are around 5x the size of a hockey puck. They have an LED light constantly flashing green with a red every ten or so. I’m betting they could easily install cameras types and nobody would think twice. In my last apartment, I got up close to it one night and saw the product branding. It was “KIDEEZ”. What the actual fuck?

My nest pucks tests themselves every month. Its quite nice. They beep and check if the others can hear it.
