@CTHW@mstdn.ca @uxMark@cosocial.ca Canada only comprises about 0.5% of the world's total population, so that 2% statistic is just disgusting. Canadians are causing 4 times as many GHG emissions as folks in other parts of the world, AS WELL AS supplying the O&G that other people pollute the planet with!! I'm so disgusted with Carney at this point.

@EllenInEdmonton@yeg.bike @uxMark@cosocial.ca OK But the world CO2 percentage which is what causes global warming is not dependant on intensity but on total. The Alberta governments claim that the co2 intensity per bbl in oil sand production is a distraction. But, so is the claim that the Canadian emission intensity matters. And you're correct in focusing on the results of burning fossil fuels. It's only the combustion that adds GHGs But two points. Any reduction in Alberta production would be replaced to supply the heavy oil extractors in the US with heavy oil from Venezuela or Nigerian. Each of which while emitting the same amounts on combustion have twice the intensity of Alberta heavy oils production. PM Carney is responding at the world level because of his experience in Europe and in the UN. He understands where change really matters - and it's not at home.
